Crypto Exchange Fee Calculator: What a Trade Really Costs
On the order book, buying $500 of crypto costs about $0.50 on Bybit or OKX, $1 on Gate, $4 on Kraken Pro and $6 on Coinbase Advanced at each exchange's entry tier with a market order. Limit orders cost less; the apps' Buy buttons cost more — Kraken's app charges 1% plus a spread, and Coinbase's simple buy adds a fee and a spread it shows only at checkout. Which exchanges you can use depends on where you live: in the US, Bybit and OKX's global exchange are off-limits, so the real choice is Kraken or Coinbase. New Kraken users also get $10 in Bitcoin after a $100 bank or crypto deposit plus $100 traded — more than the fee gap on a first purchase.

How this is calculated: one sell order of $133 at each exchange's entry fee tier on its order book (taker fee for a market order). App and convert buttons add a spread that exchanges don't publish, so they are listed separately. Card purchases add a card fee shown at checkout; Kraken charges nothing for crypto deposits. A sale leaves the cash on the exchange: moving it to your bank costs what the exchange charges for that method (bank transfer, SEPA, wire), shown before you confirm. Kraken's $10 bonus is counted once: it needs a $100 bank or crypto deposit plus $100 traded, cards don't count.

Why the Buy Button Costs More Than the Order Book
Every exchange has two doors. The app's Buy, Sell and Convert buttons give you a fixed quote with a spread built into the price — convenient, but the spread isn't published and changes with the market. The order book (Kraken Pro, Coinbase Advanced, Bybit or OKX spot) charges only the published trading fee. On Kraken, the same account opens both: the app charges 1% plus a spread, Kraken Pro 0.40–0.80% at the entry tier.
A limit order that waits for your price pays the lower maker fee; a market order that fills now pays the taker fee. For a first purchase the difference is a few dollars — for regular buying it adds up.
Fee Tiers: Why Your First Trades Cost the Most
Fees fall as your 30-day trading volume grows. Kraken publishes its whole ladder; the steps most readers will meet:
| Kraken 30-day volume | Maker | Taker |
|---|---|---|
| $0+ | 0.40% | 0.80% |
| $2,500+ | 0.30% | 0.60% |
| $10,000+ | 0.22% | 0.38% |
| $50,000+ | 0.15% | 0.30% |
| $100,000+ | 0.12% | 0.25% |

Which Exchanges Work in Your Country
The cheapest exchange is irrelevant if it won't open an account for you. In the US, Bybit doesn't accept residents and OKX's global exchange doesn't either (OKX US is a separate app), so the comparison is Kraken against Coinbase. In the UK, Kraken, Coinbase and OKX serve residents. In India, Kraken is not available, while Bybit is registered with FIU-IND. The calculator marks each exchange for the country you pick; where we can't confirm, it says so instead of guessing.
Selling TON From Telegram Stars
Creators who withdraw Stars through Fragment receive TON. Pick TON and "Sell crypto" above, then switch the amount to ⭐ Stars to see what your Stars cash out to on each exchange. On Kraken the deposit itself is free with a 1 TON minimum, and a TON deposit counts toward the $10 bonus.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which crypto exchange has the lowest fees?
On the order book, Bybit and OKX charge about 0.1% per trade at their entry tier, Gate 0.2%, Kraken Pro 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker and Coinbase Advanced 0.60% / 1.20%. Bybit and OKX's global exchange are not available in the US, where the choice is Kraken or Coinbase — and Kraken's entry tier is the lower of the two.
What are Kraken's fees?
Kraken's app charges 1% on instant buys and sells plus a spread. Kraken Pro, the order-book screen on the same account, starts at 0.40% for maker (limit) orders and 0.80% for taker (market) orders, falling with 30-day volume — 0.15% / 0.30% from $50K and 0.12% / 0.25% from $100K.
What are Coinbase's fees?
Coinbase's simple buy and sell include a spread and a Coinbase fee that varies by payment method; Coinbase shows both only at checkout. Coinbase Advanced shows its rates after sign-in; the entry tier (under $1,000 of 30-day volume) is widely reported as 0.60% maker / 1.20% taker.
Why is the app's Buy button more expensive?
Instant buy and convert buttons give you a fixed quote, and the exchange builds a spread into that price. Placing the same order on the order book (Kraken Pro, Coinbase Advanced, Bybit or OKX spot) costs only the published trading fee.
Does the calculator include sign-up bonuses?
Only cash-equivalent ones. Kraken pays new users $10 in Bitcoin after a $100 bank or crypto deposit plus $100 traded, so it's counted once on trades of $100 or more. Task-based welcome rewards, like Bybit's, are coupons rather than cash and are not counted.
How current are these fees?
They were checked on 2026-10-08 against each exchange's own fee pages, which are linked under the calculator. Coinbase and Gate don't publish their rates openly, so their numbers are marked as reported.
